What is Krillion?
Krillion gives everyone the same seven prompts a day, with 25 seconds to answer each. Getting it right is only half of it — the goal is the rarest correct answer you can think of. Your score is depth: the screen is an ocean, and a good answer sinks you past the point where sunlight stops, through anglerfish territory, down toward the trench floor, where “a perfect dive ends.”
It runs in a browser, there’s nothing to install, and it’s made by one person.
How to play: 7 prompts, 25 seconds, one answer each
A dive is seven prompts in a row. Each one gets 25 seconds and one answer — no second guess. Type what comes to mind and press enter; the game checks it against a curated answer set and scores it by how rare it is.
The clock is doing real work: 25 seconds is enough to recall the obvious answer and not quite enough to overthink. Don’t play it safe. The game even has a name for the trap — “too clever”, the go-to “obscure” pick that isn’t actually that obscure.
How scoring works: rarity, depth and the Krillion gem
Rarity isn’t guessed at. According to the official FAQ, answer sets are built by aggregating datasets — dictionaries, wiki pages, encyclopedias — then merged and cleaned. Some prompts are scored mechanically against a familiarity database of how often a word or name turns up in what people read and write. The ones that can’t be reduced to a number get LLM assistance and a manual pass.
The best-scoring gem, the Krillion, isn’t picked on rarity alone. Past a certain depth rarity is hard to tell apart, so the gem is also chosen for being satisfying to land — something at least a few players actually get, not an answer one person in the world would type.
Autocorrect is generous on purpose: many answers have aliases, and close misspellings match them. The FAQ’s example is “sea donkey”, an alias for the Threebanded Sheephead — one letter off “sea monkey”.
Modes: daily, unlimited, archive and friends
- The daily dive — seven shared prompts a day. This is the main game.
- Unlimited — more prompts beyond the daily, part of the paid unlock.
- Archive — “every aired daily, resurfaceable.” When we checked, it was kept with the unlocks, and opening it offered the $5 unlock.
- Themed packs — see below.
- Friends and My Krillion — playing alongside people you know, and your account.
An app and a multiplayer version are both planned, the developer says, but neither is out yet.
Themed packs
Beyond the daily, Krillion runs themed packs in the same seven-answer format. They’re free for now while in beta — the site warns that answers and scoring may have issues. Four are live:
- Words & Language (English) — 30 chapters.
- At the Movies — 30 pictures.
- Sports — 30 games.
- Geography — 30 expeditions.
A Music pack is listed as coming soon, and more packs are planned.
Is Krillion free? The $5 unlock
The daily dive is free, and the site is supported by ads. A one-time $5 unlock adds Unlimited, and per the FAQ, any unlock turns ads off across the whole site. Link your Google account and it follows you to other devices. No subscription.
Where to play Krillion
Play it at krillion.io — the official site, and the only place the daily lives. The developer has said other people are claiming to be them, and copycat versions exist, so check the address before you play.
Games like Krillion
Chainle is the one Krillion itself recommends — made by the developer’s little brother. For the full list, with why each one is like Krillion, see games like Krillion.
